Why I’m I AFTR it:
Growing up with a step-dad who had a love for fitness had me running my first 10km at 9 years old, weight-training with him in the garage gym, and exploring all forms of activity, such as football. I can’t tell you what made me start training consistently, but I’m sure a part if it is thanks to him. Fitness is more than a routine for me, it’s a lifestyle.
I weight train 5-6 times a week do pilates weekly, and enjoy going for early morning run every so often. I move my body not because I feel obligated to, but because I’m reminded of the privilege that I get to. Sure, there are days where getting a workout feels impossible, or driving straight home AFTR work feels easier. But I remind myself what it is that I’m truly AFTR showing up for myself, even when it’s tough.
There is something so deeply empowering about showing up consistently, lifting heavy weights on the days you feel weak, and moving your body in a way that honours it. Not everyone gets it and not everyone will. That’s what sets you apart - persistence through struggle; discipline over motivation.
Apart from the physical benefits, I’ve noticed growth in other areas of my life. I get things done even when I don’t want to; I push myself harder in everything else; I feel mentally stronger.
My moment is now.
There is a reason that I feel called to this movement at this stage in my life. For years I’ve trained, sometimes intensely, sometimes with more balance. But always with a love for movement.
I’ve never viewed myself as a fitness influencer, or brand ambassador. I just showed up for myself and fell in love with it. I don’t strive for perfection or medals, just to be better than I was yesterday. This lifestyle has taught me that showing up for yourself is one of the highest forms of self-love, and that there is strength in consistency. It taught me that while we all have different goals to attain; we are all connected through community and a love for movement.
Being in an environment packed with people who share a vision and push you to be better, is in and of itself a blessing.
I view AFTR as that. It brings together people who chase brilliance and get AFTR their goals. It’s more than just a brand, it’s a movement.
I want to move with it.
